I Promise Media: Introduce yourself: Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do?
Levi Jardim: My name is Levi Jardim, I am a singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. I am currently living in Orlando, FL, and studying music full-time at the Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. As I said I am a singer, classically trained, but my main style would have to be an alternative rock type of sound.
I Promise Media: Do you play other instruments? If so what was your first instrument?
Levi: Other than singing, I play guitar, bass guitar, drums and any other kind of percussive instruments. My first instrument was the drums; I started taking lessons when I was 7, but gave up on it for 3 years, then started practicing again when I was 11 years old, and I have been playing drums ever since.
I Promise Media:What are your musical influences?
Levi: My musical influences as a kid was the gospel and christian music I grew up learning; I was born into a very Pentecostal Christian family and that was what I first learned. Around when I was 11, I began listening to the Christian Rock bands that were growing in popularity, at first with Switchfoot and Oficina G3 (a brazilian Christian rock band). As I progressed through my teens I began listening to more mainstream rock like Foo Fighters, MuteMath and The Killers. My favorite artist right now that influences a lot of what I do is John Mark McMillan; I love his poetic lyrics and the ruckus sound (as he describes it) that his music has.
I Promise Media: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
Levi: In 5 years I hope to be doing music as a full-time gig, it already is now, but I want to be more out in the world. I want to be touring with a full-length album out. I want to be able to spread the music that God puts inside of me to as many people as I can, and have fun while doing it.
I Promise Media: How would you describe your music?
Levi: I would have to describe my music as just about anything that I think sounds good put together. It’s hard to put a label on it because as a musician we are always trying to do something different, and from experience when I try to make music in a specific genre, I usually end up doing something completely different. If I had to define it, an Alternative Rock style with lot of Acoustic Folk-Country roots to the lyrics and guitars and very grunge driven vocals.
I Promise Media: If your life was a ‘90s TV show what would it be and why?
Levi: “Boy Meets World”, because I feel a LOT like Cory Mathews, and I just found that show hilarious, probably one of my favorites from the 90’s
I Promise Media: Any last words?
Levi: I found hope in music, like a connection deeper than anything I’ve ever felt before. And because of what I found I make music to touch people, and I hope and pray that every person that hears one of my songs gets that feeling. That is why I became a musician.
